She was beautiful, golden-colored, 5.6 inches tall working woman. Many boys were referred to her parents for matrimonial alliance. But on her first dates with them the slim guy turned fat, educated became illiterate, good-salaried dropped down to mediocre-salaried. With these subsequent lies, frustrations started creeping.
One day her dearest uncle asked her to meet a guy, who he told was very tall, handsome and well-educated man of 29 years.
She went to meet him in a coffee joint.
She: “Hi, is this Rohan?”
Rohan stood up: “Hey”
She was looking four inches down from her two inched high heels!!!

P.P.S.: I am not stereotyping about dating shorter guys, I am voicing out my opinion against lies that are a common occurrence in arranged alliances.

Nabanita, everyone around me has such stories to tell.... The lies later on become jokes! I may like to write detailed posts sometime later in life. Though for some these are frustrations, for some these are funny instances!

DeleteEven though we do not have arranged marriages in this neck of the world, blind dates can be really embarrassing. I don't think many of them end up working out.

DeleteOh, yes!! Mine is a typical arranged marriage. The first one turned out to be a fat fellow, second was just asking how much he would get as dowry and the third turned out to be smart, handsome and with a boy-next-door kinda image. he won my heart and is my hubby darling now :P :P Arranged marriages is an embarassing thing!! Nice post... :)

DeleteI wouldn't put down all arranged marriages like that :) Maybe because I know many that didn't have all these lies or misrepresentations etc, including mine :) I guess we can never generalize :)

Ditto! I am almost 5.5" to be precise 5.4 and a half :)) and taller guys attract me too! I guess it is same with most of the Indian girls! :)

ReplyDeleteLuckily or unluckily I haven't had a chance to face our typical Indian arranged marriage fate and I must say I was lucky to choose on my own. But yes I know a lot of friends and even cousins who due to the pressure had to undergo such pain.
