P.S. Wrote this poem long time back, for some unknown reason it stayed there in my personal diary for a long time. It is disheartening when farmers of our country work hard to grow food and themselves die of hunger and life-threatening struggle they go through to earn a living for their families. We often hear the news of mishandling of food, bad and ignorant ways of storage, people hoarding, black-marketing and thus creating unnecessary shortages to gain maximum profits. On top of it, there are natural calamities and new unknown technology for them to deal with where many of them have no back-ups to sustain the loss. An online site showed that nearly 4 lac farmers have committed suicides since 1995. Its heart-wrenching to see people who work day and night to cater to our hunger-needs, which is a necessity for survival, suffer so much. With this poem, I tried to present to agony of farmers.
Please let me know your views in the comment section of this blog.

The lonely note in your wallet

Ever wonder why?

People at the top are mostly desolate. Ever wonder the notes of ten and hundred always seem to find company in your wallet, the coins seldom fail to find others of their kind to be with. However, a thousand rupee note sits alone waiting for someone to meet, until it finally breaks down.
What is wrong with it? Is it an arrogant snob or just some poor bloke who couldn't find someone compatible to be with? Even the most commonly encountered statistical distributions- Normal Distribution, chi square, t, F, Binomial, Poisson show that the loneliness at the extremes is a rule rather than exception.
If you're the lonely one,
You are not the only one.
Though its not a ubiquitous state,
You may soon find another lonely mate!

If you are alone, know that you are rare but your kind will find you soon. Meanwhile enjoy this song!

Infinity

Image: Google
I looked back to the time when I signed my first appointment letter. My work hours were defined, eight hours in a day. I was happy that I got a job. Office started from 9.00 am. and ended at 5.00 pm. Like all new recruits I was enjoying my work. Stirred by the words of my manager I started bringing my work to home. Inspired and motivated to perform better, I started staying back at office for longer periods. Even if I hadn't I would still be loaded with work that one could never complete in eight definitive hours. I decided to be the most resourceful employee and best in my team to bag a hike and may be get the fastest promotion. I felt pride and sense of self fulfillment. I lost interest in people, social gatherings, my family; I stopped respecting those who were not working hard like me. Everywhere around me there was bait. Bait of bonuses, hikes, competition, performance certificates, best employer trophy. I evaluated everything in terms of opportunity or profit. I never realized why most of the companies or jobs talk about precisely 8 working hours. Why number 8 is the standard number, neither 7 nor 9! Now after years, when I have been caught up in the web of consumerism, I analyzed the 8 more carefully. I held my first appointment letter horizontally on the table to check on my work hours - ∞(Infinity) it was. I realized, my hands were tied in the loops of 8 or ∞. I feel that I am totally handcuffed. I had no watch to realize time was running elsewhere too.
I is for Infinity on April 10,
A-to-Z Challenge
P.S. Through this post I have tried to define real working hours, and I do not intend to discourage anyone from working hard!

Tale of a Gold-filled Broken Bowl

I read the blog post by one of my dear friend Shine titled 'Gold Filled Broken Trust'
Most of her posts compel me to contemplate on the subjects related to life and philosophy and this one was no exception. There she talked about broken trust that can be re-established and made more beautiful with reference to the following quotation she read online.
Being an optimist she tried to mend the trust that was broken for years by somebody, she talked about failing in the same. After reading her post, I thought some of us might be going through the same phase i.e. being hopeful and putting efforts to mend something that has been broken. Though probability of setting things right is more when the person who was at mistake realises his fault and put forth his efforts to fix things.

I thought about aforesaid quotation with a different view than Shine's, and hence thought of sharing it here.

We are humans and we percieve the thoughts of wise the way we want to, befitting our situations. There can be infinite ways to look at things or one universal way to understand them and implement them in our lives.

Let the object or the bowl above be a person. We all face some or the other difficulties in life. We have heard about the famous phrase by Herbert Spencer, 'Survival of the fittest.'  Hence when a shattered person manages to stand again, s/he becomes fitter and fittest with each difficulty s/he faces. The experience gained in the process makes the person much stronger, wiser and less vulnerable. Such experiences have their own welfares to the world than to that person. S/he can rescue, empathise, be non-judgemental with that part of the world that is going through the same hardships which s/he went through.

The trust Shine talked about can be that soup in the bowl that filled it prior to the cracks. Once soup is spilled no one can fill it with the same one, we need to fill it with a new one.
The broken bowl still has cracks in it. Filling it with gold is a reminder to us not to under-estimate its value by its cracks, there is a history associated with it. A tale about its struggles and wise beauty. Japanese must have thought something beautiful like that. Quotes from wise mean something to keep for the long run. Isn't it?

Post Script: If someone has broken your trust more than once, try to be sensative to yourself and find people who really care. No one deserves a life full of uncertainities and errors. Love yourself!

People & Puzzles

Have you ever wondered that we might be like various blocks of a puzzle and our world when united  is one solved puzzle as a whole? It just happened to me a while ago during my fits of contemplation. Read on and see if you agree.
We are like the pieces of a puzzle. Neither perfect nor complete. So there is one block that completes either one or multiple others. There are some people who complete us or many others at once. Sometimes we are the middle piece of that puzzle requiring many people to complete the space and meeting the requirements of them too and sometimes we are the side blocks requiring the support from just a few other incomplete pieces. Here by completing the requirements I mean any sort of interdependence viz. emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual, financial or any other.

So we live in a world where we need each other to attain a perfection and a great life  for sure.  Our weakness is covered by their strength and our strength is enhanced by their efforts and vice-versa. Just then we look at our creator and smile back and say now we know why He did not make us that perfect- appreciating this socially dependent life.

Author's Note: Do you feel so too? If yes, your feedback  is welcome. If no, I want to know that perfect and isolated happy block that is not the part of this puzzle!

The Broken Moon!

I look at moon in the night,
broken down into pieces
as it touches the lake downside.

does it love the night with passion
or isolated in the night sky above
it subsides down in deep depression.

when I look at the lake
inside it ablaze

when I look that high
cloaked behind the clouds
it escapes my gaze

pondering over it's two different sides
I wonder why it is broken
underneath the lake downside...

The Tag!

Few days back, a fellow blogger Ritvik tagged me with some questions. I would like to answer them here. I am sorry Ritwik for not being able to answer them before. Here I go:

  1.  Would you rather go to an urban place or a deserted place for a vacation?
Answer: I would rather go to a deserted place, an escape from the Urban area I already
    am living in.
  2. One thing which you think is most unique to you?
Answer: My DNA & finger prints.

  3. Blogspot or Wordpress?
Answer: Blogspot, I have become comfortable with it now. Wordpress would mean starting it from the scratch.
  4. One thing which India needs urgently.
Answer: Loyalty & empathy of Indians to fellow Indians. (it includes loyalty and empathy of politicians to Aam-Janta as well)
  5. Do you believe that Anna Hazare's lokpal bill is the ultimate solution to corruption?
Answer: Can't Comment. But it has to start from somewhere.
  6. What is God for you? Do you believe in idols?
Answer: I believe in everything that is not harming me or any other living being. I do believe in God and my belief makes me fight the adversities, if any, and keep me Positive.
Again I have my own theory of worshiping the idols. We sometimes need to give structure to our thoughts and a place to meditate. Positive auras of people in temple make it a pleasant place. Though I worship Him in either way. (Did I over-answer it?)
  7. What kind of blogs do you like to read?
Answer: I pick blogs randomly. Fictions, poems, life previews, cartoon strips, social issues anything. They just  need to feed me with a good time, while reading them. Good ones of course win my Loyalty.
  8. One word that would describe you?
    Answer: Random!
  9. Your favorite movie. And why?
Answer: Pinjar. It finely portrays the struggle (social/physical/mental) of a girl before and at the time of partition. (Such mishappenings and struggles can be observed during any disaster).
  10. Person you admire the most?
Answer: My parents (I see them as a single entity)
  11. Will you follow me? ;-)
    Answer: LOL. I already am!!!!

These were interesting questions. No need to say, your views on the above are welcome. :)

This time I would like to tag all my visitors/fellow-bloggers here. If you can Answer these ten questions, please do:
    a.  "Forget and forgive" or "Remember and plot your revenge"?
    b. Greatest thing that has happened to you till now?
    c. Do you really laugh/smile, when you write lol/haha/rofl on chat?

    d. Do you believe in Life after death?
    e. Hollywood or Bollywood or any other -wood?
    f. Whom do you trust more with your secrets- Family/Friend/Stranger?
    g. Your views on Gay marriages- can you accept it in your family or in case of your son/daughter?
    h. One of the most interesting things about you?
    i. How important is money? "Live today" or save for the "D-day"?
    j. Mind over heart or heart over mind?

P.s. If you feel like answering these in your blog, do that. Post it's link here!

Marriages in India- Arranged or Love?

Marriage is one of the most important steps in our lives that decides our long term happiness. However, with one wrong move it can turn out to be total blunder. As I said before in one of my early posts, marriage is all about growing old together. It is believed people who are married tend to be happier than those living alone.

“Marriage is a gamble.”
Years ago one of my friends said it over a discussion.  He was right. You can fall for the right person or else you can fall in a trap. Trap, for instance may be marrying somebody who is in love with you for all the wrong reasons, or who thinks you will be a great thing at home, one can meanwhile explore the world and one’s options, when you are in so much love with him/her. Or else somebody who was denied of love marriage and was emotionally blackmailed by one's parents to take a step further for the guy of their choice. (They always feel they have seen the world more than their kids.) The only thing that sometimes they don’t know is they saw the world during their times and we are living in our times. My mom says this is an old age all time problem between parents and children. (Thank God, my parents are cool!). I heard one really pathetic case where the families of both knew each other and girl and boy were in courtship for one year. After marriage the girl ran away with someone else.
Marriage is certainly a game of gamble, irrespective of any theme- arranged or love.

Both have their own pros and cons. Being in Indian society caste, culture, traditions still hold priority and people marrying from different castes and religions are normally not appreciated and approved by parents and extended families.  So while the decision of marriage should be of the ones who are actually marrying, in reality the decision involves the approval of the whole clan, family, extended family, society etc. more than that of the main protagonists.
We never know when we will fall in love. It can happen today tomorrow or any day till we die. So while everybody talks about what are the boons I would go for the risks factors or banes involved in Arranged marriages or Love marriages.

Envision:

1. In love marriages, relatives are on your nerves, judging you on the basis of your choice, parents fearing what our child will be thought of by others (yes even in today’s era there are parents who fear that.)
While in Arranged marriages, relatives and parents are on your nerves, worrying about your Marriage Expiry Date ( it is a term I have recently invented). So when you’ll deny some good proposals (according to them) you’ll be given some not so good options (according to everybody else’s standards) to compromise before there is an Expiry Date. Of course next lot is of divorcees and widows/ers after that.

“Make the hay while sun shines.”

We all have read this and understand the deep meaning behind it now.

2. In Love marriages, nothing else may be according to you ( your family’s) standards except the girl/boy! (You know once you two will start a new life, you’ll be the one putting in all your efforts to make everything else will fall in place.)
In arranged marriages, everyone ensures you make minimum compromise, though probability of you falling in love with the girl/boy presented before you between so many options is low, one fears about chemistry and understanding with the other person.

3. You may end up making a wrong choice in arranged marriage, knowing that the person you married is in love with someone else. Or worst scenario, the guy you married has fallen in love with a girl at his work place. Poof!!!! You are out of picture!
On the other hand, you may end up in loss of feelings in love marriage after knowing the person you married is no more same and your expectations (over)may lead you into frustrations and feelings of denial.

4. Since, our Indian society is still not very open, one is forced to decide about a guy/girl without much conversations in few initial meetings. Your trust may be broken after learning a few things your spouse did not tell you or lied to you before the alliance. Wait a minute…. It happens in love marriages too –False promises, false claims, false hopes!

5. Because in Indian society one is ought to live with the whole family and not just with a girl or a boy, in love marriages, you may crave for acceptance by other family members. Belonging to different family settings may give you another nervous breakdown as the expectations from you are more. Parents would want to prove their little girl’s/boy’s choice wrong, they feel s/he is still not matured enough.

6. In some family settings, arranged marriages mean dowry. The family that can bid more for your son is the family that wins your son for their daughter. Boys feel proud knowing their worth in monetary terms, and girls like the purchasing power of their parents. Why shouldn’t they be proud, their parents have bought the best one for them? Love takes a secondary position in such cases.

Conclusion: Summing up what I heard, saw and learned the alliances of both types have their own charm and curse.  There are some screwed up love marriages and some very successful arranged marriages in the family and friends.  It’s all about your destiny.  Belonging from both the worlds, where my own parents had sort of love marriage and I, most probably, am  going to have the arranged (-cum love), I can only say one thing, “Let the fruit ripened with patience, endurance, respect for each other’s views and efforts to understand.  “
In the end it’s about the one who can make you fall in love over and over again. We are here to celebrate life, let’s do it!

P.S. Love marriage or arranged marriage- decision should be yours. If you are of marriageable age, you should be matured enough to decide about what is wrong and right for you. So that you wont blame someone else for your screwed up life.

P.S. Post your views, if you have any on the same. Or else votes of approval will also make the effort worthwhile. All the best to the ones who are going to tie the knot!

Colorful

I was white
A colorless soul
when I was born
Some said new life is green
Time passed by
I glided along
Happenings happened
I had been painted on
Some painted me black

removed it with white
giving me grey

Some gave me red
saying love is blind
I went through blues
then I got lots of hues
Now they call me colorful
Who else could remain dull
Spreading the enchantment
I realized
Life is now complete
When before I was only a plain white...

Take ten on Why Facebook is a Great Invention:

So its a Mark Zuckerberg's Birthday today. Let me count some Tens on Why Facebook (fb) is a great invention!!!

1. You get connected to the people you want. (even those you don't want! :P) Good connectivity is what matters!!!
2. You no more forget any birthdays and special events... Especially of the wives and girlfriends. Life has become less challenging!
3. You don't need to worry about your spouses' or children's affairs. Out of the habit of status updates and photo tags you can trace them anywhere!!!
4. Photos updates give you an idea what is missing in you own life to make it more exciting. As they say it "An idea can change your life...."

5. House wives are no more cribbing about being idle... (P.S. who the hell are you, they are busier than thou) :P
6. It works better than any other online media. Spreading the word was never so easy. (Social causes)
7. Your home business has a good number of clients without much investments on pamphlets/layouts etc.
8. Your mates are your critics/ fans/ listeners/ supporters, when before no one bothered to know your daily updates, you are now encouraged to pursue your Interests!!!
9. Because of Facebook, you have found long lost friends, relations etc.
10. Now people who didn't know the technology, computers and Internet are well informed with the basics and want to be online to stay connected....

                                        Happy Birthday Mark!

P.S. If you have any more, add on!

Tomorrow...

A day when we'll realize our dreams, do what we want to. A day when somebody in a dire need for money will win a lottery; a guy at a beer bar will get a free beer; someone will get back one's love; the couple who have been working day and night will pay off all their bills; a man who has been saving for the day will enjoy all his savings; a critically ill guy will get well. A day when system will change, life will change; a day when we will fulfill all our responsibilities and live a free, untangled life or as some say a day when we all will die .

Tomorrow is a day that no one has ever seen or been into, but we all fear, worry, plan, dream and live for it.
"...though Tomorrow never comes."

P.S. This poem is inspired by increasing havoc, impatience, noise and madness in people in big cities. In the name of development, lives are somewhere ruining.

The Elusive Dreams...

As a child the dreams were easy to see. Some were as small as dreaming of getting a doll or a toy car, and some were as big as finding a fairy in a white dress with those two large wings and flying high with her. Both dreams had a big difference, one was close to reality and other had no connection with it. One could possibly be achieved, other was lived forever in a hope to be achieved. Where the former got fulfilled, latter was beautifully lived without regretting or bothering if it will be realized someday. Both were different but both had contentment, a tranquility and a joy of living the different worlds and were lived without a fail, a repent or a sorrow.

One day we started growing up. And the world started shrinking in our minds restricting our fictional wisdom with its facts and figures, the dreams now got closer to reality. When as a child only dreaming mattered, now making that dream come true was the motto.. When dreams, were not transformed in reality now, we were torned, the trust vanished, the hopes broke!

As a child it was a dream to pluck the stars from sky, or holding that moon with a thread to stop it from falling down during the day, finding a white pony with wings if not fairy, or finding a chocolate bearing tree, is now that elusive dream that has no meaning, irrespective of how beautiful one had thought of even being a child...
A friend rightly said a few days back, "when u grow up its hard to bridge up the gap between reality and dreams."

Lying idle under the sky
With you besides
When as a child plucking
Those stars was all i dreamt of
Now holding your hand
Is all i want to
I used to pray for a fairy before
To take me on the worldly ride
Now you give me
my invisible wings for a lifetime flight....

I am an Indian against Corruption!

I am a man - a common man. I earn my bread sometimes by pulling a rikshaw, sometimes lifting a heavy sack. I sometimes fix the taps of others' homes, and some days I scavenge those plastic bags from that big pile of garbage.

I am a woman, who struggles daily to get two square meals, to feed my children, to feed the unborn in me. My mornings are spent cleaning others' homes and sometimes I brush up the roads. I hear the loud cries of the hungry stomachs, and weakened by daily gusts of poverty but I fight harder. I am a mother whose child has abandoned her, and my time is near. I daily bang my head in government offices to avail my rights, to get my pension. I lift up my old crippled husband to the government hospitals on my bare shoulders covered with torn clothes, and I sit there whole day waiting for my turn.

I am a child who begs for money on the street, because my parents can't afford my education, my relatives have left me on the roads because they can't feed one more mouth. I can't get the vaccines, because they are unavailable to me even if they are free. I am an Indian, who wants to make it big, but they tell me that everything comes at a cost. And that cost comes with an additional cost. I am an Indian who is tired of paying taxes and extra cess on those taxes and still when I go out to buy a house, I pay additional sums to get my work done on time and keep myself out of trouble. I am an Indian who is about to die soon, but the installments still remain to be paid off. I feel bad that I couldn't secure a safe future for my child. I am the soul of that soldier who died because he was provided corroded rifles, and fake bulletproof jackets. I am a man who voted for a party thinking they wont do a party at my cost. I selected a handful of people, with a trust they will act best in my interest.
I believe if there is no corruption, half of my struggles will be solved. I may pass away peacefully in my own abode rather than on a random street. I may enjoy the a life of a human, rather than a bull who pulls the wagon all his life. I want to live each day. My country, my motherland will never be ashamed of not being able to feed me, shelter me, protect me.
I am an Indian, who is corrupt only because the system is corrupt, who asks for additional sums to get work done on time, because I have to pay that extra amount to get my work done- even to get an identity. I am that Indian who is promised to get a better life before every election, but left hungry, crippled and poorer after every selection!

I will stand against corruption, to fight against the system! I will never stop fighting till I win against a handful of money suckers who think they are the Kings and queens of the country! I think they have forgotten, but not me in a democracy there is no king and no queen, only of the people, by the people and for the people.

I will Free India from corruption, I am an Indian against Corruption!

The Ascetic

We were going to Uttarakhand (a state in North India) by car. The journey was long. Those were the winter days. The route was green and beautiful. Roads were topsy turvy and the journey was getting more tiring with the passing time. We decided to take a halt for some time. It was a chilly afternoon and the strong winds were making it worse. While we were enjoying the scenic beauty around, our eyes suddenly rested on an old man with dark complexion whose bone structure was visible from everywhere underneath his wrinkled skin that was covered by almost nothing. Apparently he looked like an ascetic or could be an ordinary beggar. He had some wheat flour, probably someone living down the hill might have given to him. He took it out and made dough out of it. He then collected some dry wood from around and created fire by rubbing two stone pieces (like in the stories from stone age) and cooked a chapati with it. We were amazed to see that, how a man at such a low temperature wearing almost nothing living in the wilderness arranged a meal for himself! And as he was eating it, he was crying out of joy, saying "Thank you God, for giving me food to eat, fire to be warm even in this place where there is nothing to survive. I am grateful to you, its because of you i am enjoying my fill with whatever i am having, I need nothing else thank you God for all the kindness you have bestowed upon me." And the tears of joy were constantly flowing out of his eyes..."

This was the real life story, told by my maternal uncle.
Contentment, a state of being in peace with whatever one has. I shared this story here with a hope that it will inspire us all to be happy about this life and we would work to attain that higher state of perfection of soul and true happiness and peace, the ultimate goal behind this life.

After Thoughts : Are we happy with what we have? Should we be unhappy about what we do not have? What is peace and satisfaction? What is ultimate Goal of our lives? Are we in the same state even after having everything that one needs and not desperately searching for what we do not have? I feel this instance gives depth to our thoughts and another perspective to see the world and our own lives..

The Traveller

Its a long way
not longer than life
I have stayed here
for some time that i cared

I had to flow further
long stayed water always flusters
going to nowhere my path shows
through the deepest lows of shadows

For my path was still undecided
neither I fled nor chided
I walked alone in the long deserts
got scared of forests and leopards

Sometimes In darkness I cried too loud
I was alone in between the crowd
I became strong yet so strange
stronger than life,
and stranger than disdain

Throughout the journey i was with me
above the mountains and beneath the seas
Never the money or a relation died
never again i cared, laughed or cried

The journey has been stark-black and white
I lived every virtue and committed every sin
I traveled to grow and grew some more
higher than skies and cleverer than lore...
