Unspoken... #sexualabuse

A tear rolled down from her eyes. It was one of the darkest pages of her life that she was about to unfurl. She was a child. She was as pure and as divine as the love of God in a believer’s heart.  She had a smile that could persuade thousands of butterflies to widen their wings for an enchanted look in her eyes. She was a girl with dreams to live. But she lived to be sexually assaulted by her relatives, uncles, cousins, servants, boyfriends, friends, priests, colleagues, bosses, friends, by unknown men or people she trusted the most.

This story is based on true events. Sometime back hashtag #Metoo showed the widespread prevalence of sexual assault majorly in women. Men kept silent, however sexual abuse is not uncommon in males either, 1 in 6 male children are sexually assaulted.

  1. Pedophiles must not be allowed to move in the society. In most U.S. States convicted sex offenders must register in online database and adhere to the guidelines. There is a law called Megan Law. This law requires law enforcement authorities to inform the public about the registered sex offenders.

    2. To answer your question, I don't know. But I googled this information and there are no such laws in India. Maneka Gandhi has asked for such a sex offenders register. Here is the link:

If you want to know more about Megan Law, please Wikipedia this name.

    3. We have a long way to go Rajan. It is so sad our country lacks such laws to protect the most vulnerable population: children! If only there was a way to make life of parents worry-free by safeguarding the innocent children.

  2. Of all the crimes, the child sexual abuse is what makes my blood boil. And that these crimes are committed by known people and are on the rise at an alarming rate is so heartbreaking and terrible. And a LOT of it goes unreported. Such offenders must be given death penalty but that has its repercussions too!

  4. This one of most hurting and saddest shesha, child sexual abuse is very common and it happens in families and communities all over. There are NGOs working for CSA and do lot of awareness programmes in school for kids, parents and community too. I had a case wherein a father molested her daughter in an attempt to rape and she ran out of the home, only to be rescued by childline 1098 (helpline for children in distress) the child was still in school and refused to go back home fearing the father. we had to put her in a girls home run by an NGO. The mother was shielding her husband as he is government servant and only bread winner, if this becomes a legal issue, he may lose the job.. we had a tough time dealing with this case... child was sent for counseling and it took a very long time for the child to deal with the shock and the whole family came together and the organisation had to deal with family and refused to hand over the daughter as they found her home unsafe.

    1. I have tears in my eyes while reading your comment. It is so sad that small children have to go through this. Home is the first unsafe place for a child. This is so unfortunate.
