Zealots- War over Peace, Hatred over Love!

I have known zealots. Not many, but good enough for the experience! Surviving with their extreme nature seems next to impossible. Some have desperate zest for religion while others have for politics! Everybody is fighting ardently for their own agendas! Going against their thoughts makes a person earn negative points. Opponents deserve no mercy; they are worthy of wrath- the wrath of fanatic zealots!
Talk in favor of or against any political party, talk about existence or non-existence of God, talk about peace or war, the hidden ones come out of their den to fight for their cause, to run after your lives and prove you wrong!

I belong to a family where we five, with sometimes different views, have a pleasant discussion on random things. That delivers us with balanced mindset. We have learned to respect others' views. While I have never pushed anyone to contest for what I believe in and have respected alternate choices, I feel shockingly amused on the comments or the reactions from these extremists for the people having a different choice.

Some of the immature discussions and accusations in the past provided me with a perspective. I realized why humans fight with each other on religions, castes and communities. The same goes for political fanatics. One person, who thinks he is right, wants everybody else to follow his footsteps or ideologies. Nobody wants to be entitled as conservative but some fail to demonstrate a liberal attitude. They do not respect a different view because they fail to appreciate or understand the things from others' perspective. Or probably they live with a belief that they belong to the higher class of mortals. Weaklings surrender before such fanatics, while robust opponents collide. When zealots push others to fight for their survival, peace ends and war begins. It is not the story of religions alone but behind regional disturbances, political riots etc. It is about ideologies- being a human we are entitled to our own views. Some views are neither right nor wrong, they are just views. No religion promotes these fights. No religion teaches to degrade other religion. These fights are related to personal egos, a hunger for supremacy, a non-liberal attitude and a suspicion on others wisdom!

  1. So true, Shesha. It's sad that some people can't see past a unidimensional view of the world. They miss out on so much and wreak so much chaos.

    1. Some people are prone to see the world with one eye- their eye! It is neither left nor right, they are the judges- masters of the game- according to them! Thank you for your views :)

  2. I think these days I just want to let others believe what they want, and will believe what I want. The constant political arguing made me tired.

    1. Julia you are doing what wise do! There is no point in arguing- a healthy debate or discussion is always welcomed but when they are after cutting your throat better to ignore them! This arguing has made me tired too!

  4. Very good write up Shesha on an important topic. Can't disagree with anything you say here, really can't. The only thing I wish to add is that one also needs to realize that at the end of day, opinions are just that - opinions. And they don't really mean much unless they can be backed up by substantive data or credible observations or personal experiences. And even then we need to always remember that all experience, all data is limited and partial. Hence any view or conclusion arrived at that can't be generalized. Most of the time we are so quick to form an opinion without even trying to see the other side or many other sides of the argument, and end up zealously defending our un-informed opinion and arguing, fighting with others who don't see our point of view. This is not only unhealthy for the society, but also ruins one's peace of mind and wastes our energy. It is better to put in that energy to question one's own opinion and try to see what else one may be missing and how the other person's opinion may also be right in its own way. And this questioning could even start with words like "conservative" and "liberal" - after all, everything should be investigated thoroughly for right knowledge. No? :) Congratulations for completing the challenge successfully :)

    1. I agree with you Beloo! all data is limited and partial despite our experiences! Most of the times we are quick to form judgements and opinions failing to see the other side! Rumination is the key as you said! And I could expect such a balanced and wonderful feedback from a very thoughtful teacher :) Loved your each and every word here!
Thank you so much for your support and same to you for the challenge success!!! :)

  6. Indeed half the fights in the world are related to personal ego. Only if we learn as a child to look at a thing form other persons perspective right....

    1. Absolutely. If we learn or teach our children to look at things from other's perspective many problems will be solved in no time!

  8. Whatta perfect way to end, Shesha and Hi Five champion. No dearth of the stupid zealots who make religion or politics a slug fest and can't understand why. I've met quite a few of such idiots and sadly so, there are many among my relatives...Ive avoid religious arguments coz the 'fucktards' can never change.

    1. Yes Better to avoid them than to bang your head! I hate such arguments- to each his/her own! We live in the same world- a decent discussion is never harmful but a zealot's passion is a murderer's attempt! :))
Thanks and same to you! Hi-five mate! Feeling so good :)

  9. Politicians are just opportunists who want to sit on that chair (for obvious reasons)
And to get to the chair, they use religion / break up the country (Telangana) / alliance with other parties ...... anything.

    1. Ah! These politicians are following old divide and rule policy! They are selfish people- most of them! Lets see when India shines!

  11. I agree with you Shesha :), people do impose their thoughts on others, at times they want people to be mindless followers and at times they do not even realize it. It is important that you keep your opinion strong and be well informed.

    1. Yeah! We need to take rest and introspect! We need to keep our opinion strong but should stay silent when it collides with others! Isn't it what you too believe in :)

    2. Imposing your ideology and sharing information is different. I do not believe in staying silent but be open to exchange of information. There is always an emotional factor that influences people to impose, just do not fall prey to it.

  13. The problem occurs when someone thinks that he/she is self righteous and here a kind of zealot is created...

  18. I avoid topics of politics and religion, just because I'm terrible at debating, and don't do well with conflict. But seeing things from other perspectives is important to me, especially where my husband is agnostic and liberal, and my immediate family are all conservative Christian. I just smile, nod, and research.
